“Morjina Khatun lived in Borul village, union- Belgachha, Islampur, Jamalpur. Her husband Chan Miha was day laborer & he was the only earning member of the family. She couldn’t maintain her family’s needs and children’s education costs due to 05 members of their family. They lived from hand to mouth and they had to eat one /two meals a day.”
Morjina Khatun managed her family with the money from homesteaded vegetable gardening after filling up the nutrition demand of her family members. Due to pandemic situation of COVID-19 her husband has no work. They have to sell their goat for some money from their relatives. The day of waiting seemed to be worst. Then she taken a loan (10000 taka) from a local NGO in that area. They spent about 10000 taka lease of 10 decimal land her husband Chan Mia and here involve with vegetable cultivation and he cultivates Pepper in 5 decimal land about 5 decimal cultivates five types vegetables . They have to cost 5000 taka in 02 months of vegetable cultivation, She sells peppers for five thousand tk, and another sells vegetables for around 6000 tk. From which he is able to bear the expenses of his own family. She saves some more money to protect livestock in the next flood plinth raise of livestock residence.
All this happen through IGA Vegetable & Seed Production Training session of the NRP DRRiSSN, she captured improved technology on Flood tolerant vegetable cultivation by bag method sack method and floating method of fruit tree plantation, vaccination, and its importance, she develops a business plan and understood its importance. Also knows about the technologies of health, hygiene & nutrition, women empowerment, disaster & climate risk management, governance, etc. During the training session, she prepared a business plan with the assistance of program people. The Sub assistant Agricultural Officer (SAAO) has visited her homestead and also provided the necessary guidance to her on vegetable production, Goat and Poultry rearing, and the importance of savings. NRP SSNiDRR program of ESDO provided cash & Kind input support Tk. 3500/- She is using improved technology in her homestead vegetables garden, preparing macha for her goat, cultivating fresh vegetables in her homestead
